Roasted Cabbage Steaks with Bacon, Onions, and Mushrooms! Healthy and delicious!
So in my family we love cabbage. We eat it with sausage and turnips. We eat it shredded and mixed up in Cole Slaw. Let's just say if there is a way to cook cabbage we have done it and will eat it.
Well the other day looking around we had some leftover bacon in the fridge. I decided lets try this cabbage steak craze. So I took a head of cabbage and sliced it into roughly one to two inch slices. Placed them out on a sheet tray and drizzled them with avocado oil. Now you can you use olive oil, duck fat, butter, what ever you would like. I chose avocado because I like the fruity flavors it gives off.
While the oven was preheating I took two tablespoons of bacon drippings I had in a mason jar in the fridge and put them in the bottom of my Dutch oven to start melting. I chopped up one and a half yellow onions and quartered a pound and a half of white button mushrooms. I threw the onions in first to start sweating them.
Once the onions are opaque and starting to brown I threw in the mushrooms and left over bacon. I then cooked that for about 20 minutes until the mushrooms were tender.
For plating I took the cabbage steak and placed it in the center of the plate. Then took a slotted spoon and spooned out my topping. It was delicious y'all!
